June 13 More Conference

The first picture, at the bottom of this entry, show Dr. Weber and his assistant moving his laser acupuncture machine into the conference vendor area. This machine costs in the neighbor of $25k. I talked to one German gynecologist / acupuncturist who has one and loves it. The way the machine is designed allows the practitioner to place up to 12 different laser lights on acupuncture points and to stimulate these points for several minutes, just like a regular treatment with needles. Very cool technology. Dr Weber had a very interesting story to tell us about the idea and design for this device. Dr. Weber is a medical doctor and acupuncturist. He and his wife got divorced (early 90’s?) and they both got new partners, and they all lived in the same house. His wife’s new partner was a physicist and Dr Weber and he began to discuss and design this machine. Sounds like they spent hours and hours together working on this – I wonder how the former Mrs. Weber felt about that? :) They eventually established a company for manufacture, but Dr. Weber has subsequently branched out with his own company. Then there are a few pictures of the dorm room and view from the dorm. The slide pictures are from either Lars or Tomas Hode’s presentation. (Tomas is Lars’ son). They both spoke about the use of laser with cancer patients and Tomas gave information from breast cancer studies. It’s interesting that the very best results were obtained by lasering before surgery. While there is a need for more research, this appears to be the cutting edge of some very promising new therapies for cancer. Then there is a picture of the Arndt-Schultz Curve and its implications for laser treatments. The next picture is of me and Hyunjung Kim. She is from Korea originally, and Sweden most recently. She was my roommate during the conference and gave a presentation on a study she conducted on the use of laser with dysmenorrhea patients. And then finally, one last shot of the campus in the afternoon as I walked to the shopping center next door where I met Jackie! I spent the night at her house and actually had the extreme pleasure of buying her dinner this evening!!!! That was really great!!
